The Programs

Five Formats.
One Standard.

Every format is coached, every rep is watched. Pick what fits your week, then load the bar.

01

Strength Blocks

Four-week barbell progressions built around the squat, bench, deadlift, and press. Track your numbers, chase your next PR.

50 Min · All Levels
02

Foundations

Bar path, bracing, and setup, before the plates go on. Where every new member starts.

45 Min · Beginner
03

Engine

Kettlebells, sleds, and rowers between lifts. Conditioning that respects the strength work you just did.

45 Min · All Levels
04

Open Floor

Run your own program with a coach on the floor for cues, spots, and plate math.

60 Min · Intermediate+
05

We Don't Do
Fluff.

Marcus Deland opened Steelyard in 2021 after six years coaching inside a big-box chain, watching members get handed a barcode and a machine circuit instead of an actual coach. He wanted something smaller: a converted warehouse on the east side, real barbells, and classes capped low enough that someone's actually watching your bar path.

No mirrors lining the walls. No music videos on the TVs. Just a whiteboard, a program, and people who show up for each other on a Tuesday morning.

"You don't need thirty machines. You need one good coach and a reason to come back Thursday."

Coaching Staff

Who's Loading
The Bar.

Every session is coached, not supervised. These are the six people you'll actually work with.

Marcus Deland
Head Coach · Owner

Former collegiate powerlifter, nine years coaching. Marcus built Steelyard's whole program around one rule: fix the pattern before you add weight.

PowerliftingProgramming
Renee Ibarra
Strength Coach

Renee coaches the Athlete Prep block and runs Saturday Open Floor. She's blunt about form and generous with her time. Ask her anything mid-set.

Olympic LiftsSpeed Work
Jalen Voss
Conditioning Coach

Jalen runs Engine and keeps the energy up on the floor. Former semi-pro rugby player, still can't resist turning a warmup into a competition.

What Members
Actually Say.

No script. Just people who've been showing up for a while.

★★★★★
"I've been to three gyms in this city. This is the first one where a coach actually stopped my set to fix my hip position. My squat's up 40 pounds since March."
Sarah KesslerMember since 2022
★★★★★
"I run marathons and needed strength work that wouldn't wreck my legs before long runs. Renee built me a block around my race schedule. Nobody else offered that."
Diego MarchettiMarathon runner
★★★★★
"Played DI volleyball, quit lifting after college and missed it badly. Open Floor gave me back a real program without needing to relearn everything alone."
